Studies of the Air contamination in Hospital Using RCS Air Sampler

Abstract
From June 8. 1985 to July 20. 1985, authors studied the air contamination in hospital using RCS air sampler for 2 hours from 3 p.m. everyday. The following results were obtained.
1. In agar strips GK-A media for counting the total number of microbial particles, the isolation rate of coagulase-negative staphylococci was 35.8% , and that of gram-positive bacilli was 36.0/c. Colony forming units from the crowded places such as auditorium, ICU, and burn dressing room were remarkably increased.
2. In agar strips C media for counting the number of Enterobacteriaceae, nonfermentative gram-negative bacilli were isolated most frequently (59.8%) and the isolation rate of Pseudomonas aeruginosa which is the most important agent for hospital infection was 10.9%. Colony forming units from the division of clinical microbiology were remarkably increased.
3. In agar strips S media for counting the number of staphylococci, coagulasenegative staphylococci was identified most frequently (75. 1 /o) . Staphylococcus aureus one of the most important agent for hospital infection was identified as frequent as 0. 6%. Colony forming units from the crowded places such as auditorium, ICU, grocery in hospital, and doctors room were remarkably increased.
4. In ager strips HS media for counting the number of yeasts and molds, the aspergillus species were isolated most frequently (36.7%), but in 50% the microorganisms were failed to identify. Colony forming units from blood bank, grocery in hospital, division of clinical microbiology and ICU were remarkably increased.
